Yellow-billed Oxpecker
The Yellow-billed Oxpecker (Buphagus africans) is commonly found in the sub-Saharan Africa. Its diet consists in insects and ticks found on large wild and domesticated mammals such as antelopes, giraffes (in the photo!), wildebeests and cattle. However feeding on small arthropods, their favourite food is blood, and they will happily pick at mammal's wounds until blood flows if given the opportunity. Generally, a small price to pay to get rid of some skin parasites!
O "Yellow-billed Oxpecker" (Buphagus africans) é comumente encontrado na África subsariana. Sua dieta consiste em insetos e carrapatos encontrados em grandes mamíferos selvagens e domesticados, tais como antílopes, girafas (aqui na foto!), gnus e gado. No entanto, apesar de se alimentar de pequenos artrópodes, a sua comida favorita é sangue. Dada a oportunidade, eles picam as feridas dos mamíferos até o sangue fluir. Geralmente, um baixo preço a pagar para se livrar dos parasitas da pele!
