The Grey Heron
The Grey heron (Ardea cinerea) is a predatory bird that is found throughout Europe and Asia, and also some parts of Africa. They are commonly seen in wetlands, lakes, rivers, ponds and marshes, and sometimes even on the coastal areas near the sea. They feed mostly on aquatic fauna as fish, amphibians, small mammals and insects. They cannot retract their long necks (S-shaped) during flight, and that distinguishes them from storks, cranes and spoonbills, which are able to extend their necks. The individual in the photo was spotted hunting for small fishes at Oset and Rynningeviken Nature Reserve, on the outskirts of Örebro, Sweden.
A Garça cinzenta (Ardea cinerea) é uma ave predatória que é encontrada em toda a Europa e Ásia, e também em algumas partes da África. Elas são comumente vistas em zonas alagadas, lagos, rios, lagoas e pântanos, e às vezes até nas áreas costeiras próximas ao mar. Elas se alimentam principalmente da fauna aquática, como peixes, anfíbios, pequenos mamíferos e insetos. Elas não conseguem retrair seus longos pescoços (em forma de "S") durante o vôo, e isso as distingue das cegonhas, grous e colhereiros, que são capazes de estender seus pescoços. O indivíduo na foto foi fotografado caçando pequenos peixes na Reserva Natural Oset e Rynningeviken, nos arredores de Örebro, Suécia.
