Red Rock Crab
The Red rock crab (Grapsus grapsus) is one of the most common crabs found along the western coast of Latin America, including the Galápagos Islands (from where the individual in this photo is from!). They are commonly found living among the rocks in windy and turbulent shores, where they feed on macro algae, plant matter and the ocasional animal carcass. Luckily for them, they are not considered very edible by humans, however they are sometimes used as bait for fishing. This species was one of the many collected by Charles Darwin during his stay in Galápagos!
O Caranguejo vermelho das rochas (Grapsus grapsus) é um dos caranguejos mais comuns encontrados ao longo da costa oeste da América Latina, incluindo as Ilhas Galápagos (de onde o indivíduo da foto é originário!). Eles são comumente encontrados vivendo entre as rochas em costas turbulentas, onde eles se alimentam de macroalgas, matéria vegetal e da ocasional carcaça de algum animal. Felizmente para eles, eles não são considerados comestíveis pelos seres humanos, no entanto, às vezes são usados como isca para pesca. Esta espécie foi uma das muitas coletadas por Charles Darwin durante sua estada em Galápagos!
