Lake Titicaca
The Lake Titicaca is located on the border of Bolivia and Peru. It is South America's largest lake considering volume of water and surface area, and is located at an altitude of 3,812m. Lake Titicaca is home to several different minorities, among them, the Uru people. The Uru (or Uros) are indigenous people of Peru and Bolivia and live on self-constructed floating islands made of totora (Schoenoplectus californicus subsp. tatora) reeds in the lake, near the city of Puno. Today, the islands are a main tourist attraction. You can easily rent a room from a local family in one of the islands and spend the night on the lake. Usually, you can combine a sleep over in the islands with a nice boat ride in the lake.
