Klipspringer / Cabrito-das-Pedras
The Klipspringer (Oreotragus oreotragus) is a small antelope found in eastern and southern Africa. They can reach sizes of 60 cm (shoulder high) and weight up to 18 kg. Its coat is unique among antelopes and works as an efficient camouflage in its rocky habitat. Differently from their cousins, they are monogamous and usually stay together for life. They are typically nocturnal and males form territories that can reach up to 50 hectares in size, where they stay with their partners and offspring. Young plants, fruits and flowers form a great part of their diet. Luckily, there are no major threats to their survival, as their habitat is usually inaccessible and unfavourable for hunting. This individual was photographed during one of my trips to the Kruger National Park, South Africa.
O Cabrito-das-Pedras (Oreotragus oreotragus) é um pequeno antílope encontrado na África Oriental e Austral. Podem atingir tamanhos de 60 cm (altura do ombro) e pesar até 18 kg. Sua pelagem é única entre os antílopes e funciona como uma eficiente camuflagem em seu habitat rochoso. Diferentemente de seus primos, eles são monogâmicos e geralmente pareiam para toda a vida. Possuem comportamento tipicamente noturno e os machos formam territórios que podem atingir até 50 hectares de área, onde ficam com suas parceiras e filhotes. Folhas novas, frutos e flores constituem grande parte da sua dieta. Felizmente, não existem grandes ameaças à sua sobrevivência, uma vez que o seu habitat é geralmente inacessível e desfavorável à caça.
