Fulica sp.
Coots (Fulica sp.) are small water birds predominantly found in the Americas, but also in many other parts of the world. They usually have a black plumage and are commonly seen swimming in open waters. Plants and small animals are common itens in their diet. They are often found in flocks in shallow vegetated lakes and swamps, but during breeding season they are territorialists and mostly found alone. The individual in the photo was photographed in Rynningeviken Nature Reserve (Örebro, Sweden), a beautiful reserve home to dozens of species of birds during the Swedish summer.
As carquejas (Fulica sp.) são pequenas aves aquáticas encontradas predominantemente nas Américas, mas também em muitas outras partes do mundo. Elas geralmente têm uma plumagem negra e são comumente vistas nadando em águas abertas. Vegetação e pequenos animais são itens comuns em sua dieta. Elas são freqüentemente encontradas em bandos em lagos e pântanos de vegetação rasa, mas durante a época de reprodução são territorialistas e encontradas sozinhas.
