Burchell's Zebra
The Burchell's zebra (Equus quagga burchellii) lives in small family units and are often seen in close association with wildebeest, baboons and other plains Antelope. They are commonly found in short grassland areas within savanna woodland and grassland plains, and never more than 10 Km away from bodies of water. They have a strong sensitive upper lip with which they gather vegetation. Each individual has unique markings (like fingerprints in humans) and newborn zebra stay close to the mother in order to memorize her stripe patterns. The individual in the photo was photographed during a beautiful sunrise at the Kruger National Park, in South Africa.
As Zebras de Burchell (Equus quagga burchellii) vivem em pequenas unidades familiares e são frequentemente vistas juntas com gnus, babuínos e outros antílopes. Elas são comumente encontrados em áreas de pastagem curtas dentro de savanas e planícies, e nunca mais do que 10 km de distância de corpos d'água. Elas têm um lábio superior sensível e forte com o qual cortam a vegetação. Cada indivíduo possui marcas únicas (como impressões digitais em humanos) e zebras recém-nascidas ficam perto da mãe para memorizar seus padrões de listras.
